Artist Statement
This body of work aims to heighten awareness and challenge misunderstanding of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It intends to produce an external image of the internal thought processes behind OCD. It is approached through the example of an obsessive fear of committing anything illegal and ultimately being imprisoned. By presenting the demolition of daily activities it portrays the reality of OCD in everyday life.
Different works are based upon a variety of triggers to the OCD; ranging from shopping, parties, staying at friends houses, holidays, jobs, going to night clubs, experiencing security checks to potential plagiarism.
It aims to immerse the viewer within her work and simulate the vicious cycle. The work engages the observer through targeting their external receptors (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell) alongside their proprioceptors (movement of the head, body and their spatial position).
Thus, as the observer is drawn in, they too begin to take on the pace, energy and anxiety of the OCD thought processes.
